public enemies

this is a well-made movie. michael mann is quite the filmmaker. johnny depp is quite the actor. it's dark. violent. there's not a lot of attempt to make john dillinger much more than the simple guy from indiana who introduced himself with a simple phrase: "i rob banks." a lot of the general public of his time found that sexy. thought of him as a robin-hood type (he never robbed the customers of their money. only the bank. but whose money did he think was in there?) johnny depp and michael mann sure do make his story thrilling to watch.
